3 clicks to place cursor

It currently takes 3 clicks to get a cursor in a desired spot in a field:
1st click makes the field active.
2nd click puts the cursor at the end of the data/string
3rd click places cursor where my mouse is.
It would be great if this could be one click.

Do you mean that you want to edit field values in line in the grid view?

The cognitive cost might be lower when one does this:

place the cursor over a row / record.
press the key Space to open its detail view.
click in the place at which you want to change a field value.

People started asking for improvements to this editing experience years ago.

Would also be great to only have press Enter once and it advances to the next cell in grid view. Currently need to cursor to move.

Chad Urbshott: if you press TAB it goes to the next right cell. ARROWS work well too. I mostly don't use my mouse/trackpad to fill grids.
