Dashboard Record Selector Memory
Rosson Long
When I leave my dashboard and come back the record selector defaults back to the alphabetical first values in each selector.
When I use the dashboard it is essentially becoming a "work environment" and when I "leave" my desk I expect to come back to it and pick up where I left off rather than navigate back to it.
If possible, have the record selectors "remember" where you left off when you return to a dashboard.
Totally acceptable that if I've been logged out I need to navigate back, I'm mainly wanting it for when it's still the same session.

Agreed! Ive been using the dashboards more as an interface to interact with data fields in a visual layout that groups and isolates the fields I need to view and update frequently. Currently, if you click to another view or table and come back you have to reselect the record you were working on each time leading to extra clicks and sometimes clicking into the wrong record if you don’t immediately realize that the record selector has reset. I’m primarily using the drop down format of the record selector. Not sure what the ideal duration would be to stay selected but staying selected until you select a different record would be fine in our use case, or at least an hour as it’s not uncommon to be working within a record for that amount of time.

Great to hear your perspective, Rosson Long! I have a few more questions for you:
- Can you provide more details on how long you would like the dashboard to remember your selections?
- Are there specific record selectors that you use more frequently than others?
- Would you find it useful if the system prompted you to save your current dashboard settings before logging out or exiting the dashboard?

- Ideally for the length of the login session.
- All the record selectors on the page.
- If it needs to be something decided by the end user I would suggest setting the default of “remember my selection” to “on/off” at the record selector level or dashboard level. I don’t think I would want to be asked every time I leave the page. I suppose each selector could have an on/off toggle available to each user but I feel like that’s a little complex/extra. I would argue most people would expect it to remember their previous selection.
