Excel Import is Beyond Tedious

I was really excited about moving from Airtable to SS as a paying customer.....until I tried the Excel import. I can import a large multi-worksheet excel document into airtable in 30 seconds. Airtable imports every sheet and automatically assignes the field type for me. If I want to modify the field type after import it is easy/peasy.
Importing the same spreadsheet into SS would probably take me 30 minutes. I have to go in an map every single sheet column by column. And then create another app and rinse and repeat. Just for one single spreadsheet.
That's fine for someone that wants to go through that laborious procedure.....but as the famous meme goes "aint nobody got time for that".

The import would be so much better if it was like Airtable :)
Anyway, I find it hard to import, linked tables, repeating tasks, multi select fields...

Is import functionality down? Tried in the last 2 days to import bulk records by CSV, Excel or Copy Paste but without success with any of these

Started to do this same process this morning. If the import wizard would simply
(1) default to adding a column if a match is not found
(2) suggest a column type
it would certainly go a long way to remove the tedium.
Also, allow type-ahead of the field type selection.
