Export record field names and types as text or spreadsheet for documentation and review
David Zovak
Some of my records evolve over time and it's easy to re-create fields or lose track of where they are in the record. It would be great to be able to export a record's field names and types (NOT values) in order to review and update the record's structure. Even better would be exporting everything field related: Field Name, Field Type, Selection Options, Default, Help Text
Currently, I can export a record, dump the record data, re-format the headers of the export to rows (as they're the record's fields), but this doesn't include the record type or any default data or selection options (single or multiple).
Lastly, if I were King of SmartSuite, I'd even make it possible to create a table by importing a spreadsheet containing: Field Name, Field Type, Selection Options, Default, Help Text as the import data.

CSV export with field type

When working on large tables, I need to export in order to see the list of fields in a table. In the error search phase this is important.
I export, I get the data and I copy and paste with transposition, and that's it, I have my table structure.
OK Now would it be possible for each field to optionally add information like: type (TXT, FOR, DAT, NUM, BIN, etc.) and maybe information like linked field, formatting, anything that is simple to add!
The development of great apps requires the ability to search for malfunctions effectively.
Today I created an administration solution to keep each field up to date: name, format, solution, table, link to, application version.
Thanks in advance!

Hey David Zovak, thanks for your feedback! I have a few more questions for you:
- Can you provide an example of how you currently document your record's structure and how this new feature would improve your process?
- What specific information do you want to see in the 'Selection Options', 'Default', and 'Help Text' fields when exporting?
- Would you find it useful to have an option to import/export this data in a format other than a spreadsheet, such as a text file or JSON?

Jon Darbyshire I think I explained it pretty well in my post. It's primarily for the benefit of editing and updating record structures.
My wish list includes the ability to upload a list of fields, types, default data, selection options, and Help Text to speed up the planning to creating phase in SmartSuite.
