Make it easy to copy email address
Gavin Smith
When I click on a client email, the 'mailto' automatically opens Outlook. I use Gmail. This is a pain.
Highlighting the email to copy it to clipboard is incredibly difficult as it is hard to highlight the text without careful mouse dexterity. If I am not exact with the mouse, the highlighted section disappears, or I click it and a new mailto window opens. This is particularly difficult where the field accepts multiple emails.
There is no way to highlight them all either.
The pencil 'edit' icon allows me to highlight the text, that only appears if I click in the field box first. An action that often results in the 'mailto' pop up.
If I get the edit pencil I risk editing the email address, and I only want to copy it.

Hello Gavin Smith !
My name is Stoyan and I'm the lead designer @ SmartSuite.
Just wanted to check with you if the following approach is going to help you.
What if we auto-highlight the pill content as soon as you click on the edit (pen) icon ? In that way all you'll need to do is to hit CMD+C and the address will be copied.
Regards,
Stoyan

Hi Soyan,
I think that would help. I think it would be better if there could there be a button for copying a field to clipboard. You have this button for records at the top left that lets you copy the web url record with a single click. Something similar would also be great for fields in general. Particularly name, phone number, email, address fields which are regularly copied to other things for use. Or a share button like on android experience

Thank you for posting, Gavin Smith! I have a few more questions for you:
- Can you provide more details about the specific scenarios where you need to copy multiple email addresses?
- Are there any other actions you frequently perform on email addresses that you would like to be easier?
- Would you find it helpful if there was a 'copy to clipboard' button next to the email address?

Jon Darbyshire Hi, it is more that it is very hard to copy an email address, there is a very narrow range that is clickable. This is footery (Scottish word complicated or awkward to do or use)
The problem is exacerbated on the fields that contain multiple email addresses.
- Copy to clipboard button would make it easier

Gavin Smith thank you for the feedback. I have asked our Product Team to look into how we optimize this feature. Quick Question: Do you know of any other products that provide the expereince you are requesting that we could use as a reference? If not, not worries as we will do our own research, but wanted to check. thx

Jon Darbyshire Hi, Gmail sort of does this when entering address into the 'to' field. It switches to a contained chip that can be right clicked and copied.
Gmail also has overlaying pop ups showing a contact card, so not the best example but the underlying mechanism may provide some insight.
