Need a central document and communication center

We are looking for a scheduling program that has great features for communication.It would be great to see a central Communication space, as well as a central document center. The one thing we don't want to have to do is click into each project to find stuff!

Or at least include a custom field for the "latest comment"

Jon Darbyshire thanks for the response, impressive! I have a client that is communication obsessed! He wants to see the latest activity and most of all, the latest communication (internal team/external client) all in one place without having to click thru to each project. So a breakdown of a Communication Central could be filtered or shown as "messages by team", "messages by client"... and with big SEARCH field. Because we're always trying to remember what client suggested what or which asset was updated where -- and we remember keywords, so it would be great to have a Communication Central with a search feature.
A "latest comment" field simply shows the most updated comment for a project -- whether assigned or not. Again, it's nice to see this stuff at-a-glance, instead of having to click thru to each project.

Jon Darbyshire I was about to post a request about some type of communication roll-up. For example contract app. it will have multiple link apps... when many of these app having their own work tasks/group. It would be nice if the manager of the contract app could see all the comments from other linked apps on one location. Instead trying to remember to visit each linked app.
