Pasting Into Cells
complete
Yocheved Zelishovsky
what would be really helpful is to paste a column of cells from spreadsheet as an update to existing records and not have it created a new bunch of records, possible?
Jessica Duarte
Jon Darbyshire: This does not seem to be working.

Jessica Duarte:
Philip and Cheryl reported a similar issue in the thread below. But they have confirmed they issue was gone.
Please check my Loom below showing the feature an action (recorded half an hour ago).
Please let me know if there's anything you are doing differently than me. We'll jump on it to get it fixed.
Thanks!

Jon Darbyshire: Thank you for this update. I tried pasting multiple rows from Excel and Airtable, unfortunately, no new lines of records were created.
Cheryl Smith
Jon Darbyshire: Unfortunately still doesn't work. I just tried pasting several rows from a Google Sheet and it just created one record as opposed to multiple records for each line.

Hello Philipp Voellmy:
Please help me with this one.
I've recorded a short loom illustrating the feature live.
Is there anything you are doing differently than me?
I appreciate your help!

Artem Kunytsia: Hi Artem. Thank you very much for you're quick reply and the Loom. I'm very happy to now confirm that it works exactly as expected the way you showed. I'm not sure, why it didn't work before, because I did it the same way.
Cheryl Smith
Artem Kunytsia: Thank you for the Loom. I was pasting directly into the Title cell and it didn't recognize the individual rows that way. When I highlight the record field as you showed, it works. Thanks!

Jon Darbyshire: This only seems to work on a highlighted cell and does not work for an "active" cell (cursor blinking). For a new record, the title field is required, so we have to implement a workaround: Create a dummy/temporary Title, exit out of "actively editing cell" mode. Then... highlight and paste the data. This isn't terrible, but it would be great if we could do this on a new record without having to create the dummy title first. That said, I'm really glad this feature is available!

Is there any update on this feature? I really need this!!! Jon Darbyshire

hoping this copy and paste feature will also be for subtasks and checklists? to paste in a long checklist for example, instead of pasting row by row.

Yes! Also... to add to this: As a data analyst, I need a) the ability to paste tab separated data into the grid and b) have my pasted data "fields" which includes commas to be recognized as separate linked records, so that data is cleaner and referential integrity is enforced upon pasting/entry.

Jon Darbyshire: yes, major show stopper for me, too

Matt Macpherson: Thank you for your comment and I do realize the importance of this feature for users like yourself.
We have implemented the infrastructure to allow this and we will be implementing the ability to cut and paste multiple rows of data into a Grid View in our 2.4.8 release. The development of our 2.4.8 release starts on Oct 6th and will last about 3 weeks. So early Nov 2022 is the target for this. Sorry we don't already have this available for you and Aaron Thomas. When this feature is available, we will send you a notification.
