Restrict Available Hours for Due Date, Date, Time Fields
Rachel Dew
As the workspace administrator it would be nice to have the ability and option to customize the Due Date, Date, and Time Fields in the workspace. Specifically, it would be beneficial to restrict the available hours in the drop-down menus to only display the hours set for the Working Days in the Workspace Settings
Benefit: Reduce scrolling in order to set the time

task manager restrict the time

I have a task manager where I schedule my day. I can set the date and add a specific time for each task. Is there a way to restrict the time I can set to only between 9 AM and 5 PM?

1 - you should be able to set your 'working hours' that tasks would be assigned during. that is the primary reason in my mind. 2 Configurable per user 3 - the user should be able to override the times themselves.

Hiya Victor Lebron, thanks for this post! I have a few more questions for you:
- What is the primary reason for restricting task scheduling to between 9 AM and 5 PM?
- Should the restriction apply to all users or be configurable on a per-user basis?
- Are there any exceptions to the time restriction that should be considered, such as for specific tasks or roles?

Jon Darbyshire I need to schedule my day I want it should be easy to schedule only from 9-5 that way i shouldn’t by mistake book for 2:00 AM instead of PM and have double bookings and tasks to do!

Time restrictions

I am looking to restrict my availability to 9 am to 5 pm to manage my schedule more effectively.
(When I schedule my day I by mistake schedule out of business hours I would like to know if it’s possible to restrict only business hours and I shouldn’t be able to book meetings or schedule tasks out of business hours)
When I add a time to the task I should only be able to select from 9-5

Hey Victor Lebron, thanks for your feedback! I have a few more questions for you:
- Do you want this time restriction to be applied to all days of the week or only specific days?
- Should the system prevent you from scheduling tasks outside of these hours, or just provide a warning?
- Would you like an option to override these restrictions for special circumstances?

Time field dropdown should default to office hours settings in company setup

System Admin
The need of having to scroll through all hours from 12:00Am is annoying, seriously, who works at 2:00AM?..
it should either be connected to the companies office hours, or allow setting it in the field settings or it should at least default to 6:00AM
This applies to both, due date and regulars time field.
Jon Darbyshire
Great to hear your perspective, System Admin! I have a few more questions for you:
- Can you provide more details about how you envision the connection between the time field and the company's office hours?
- Would you prefer the time field to default to the start of the office hours, or would a different time be more useful?
- Are there any other fields or features that you believe should be influenced by the company's office hours settings?

I think that it does not necessarily need to be prefilled with a time its more that when opening the dropdown it should not start with 12am, anyone that schedules anything, like employees, appointments, meetings, it will most likely be within the hours the company is operating, the fact that its broken down by 15 minute requires a lot of scrolling to even get to 8am let alone if i want to schedule something for 3pm.
So if my office hours start at 8am i would want the time options to start at 8am
other features that can use office hours, here are 2 other use cases that I bumped into recently.
- the calendar view, by week or day, where it shows by hour, since only 8 hours are visible, let it be the office hours, so the user can see the full day.
- WORKDAYS_DIFF() formula - while on the DATEDIFF formula i have the option to set the unit of measure to hours, i don't have that option in the WORKDAYS_DIFF, i would want to have the option to use hours that should be connected to my work schedule same as it looks at workdays.
Use case: if i bill customer by the hour and i scheduled a resource on a project for 3 weeks, so i use the start and end date, and now i want to calculate projected revenue based on how many hours the resource will work on that project, i cannot use workdays_diff because it will count 24 hours a day, i can also not use datediff because it will include weekends, that is why i want workdays_diff to respect the office schedule on both, days and hours.

Hello Rachel Dew! I have a few more questions for you:
- Can you provide more details on how you envision the customization of the Due Date, Date, and Time Fields?
- Could you clarify what you mean by 'restrict the available hours'?
- What specific problems are you currently facing with the existing setup of the Due Date, Date, and Time Fields?
Rachel Dew
Hi Jon Darbyshire,
- When you clicked on the field to modify Field setting, I think it would be nice to have an option "Available Hours" and then a drop down with an option for "Working Hours", or "Custom hours" with the ability to put in your own start time and end time (see Attachment 1 - mock up)
- Then when you fill out the field the option in the dropdown time dialog (see attachment 2) you'll only see times that you set instead of starting at 12:00am (a time I would never use)
- I don't know that I would say I'm experiencing any problems except if I want to scroll to say the earliest time I would ever have a meeting then I need to start scrolling at 12:00 am through not just 1 hr, but 4 increments for every hour. Rather it would be nice to open the scroll window and the first hours visible would match my working hours/custom hours and then scroll from there and the last visible hour would again be reflective of my work hours, or custom hours set.
An additional benefit: It would also allow me the ability to prevent a user from entering time outside the scope that I set, regardless of how the time is entered (typing/scrolling selecting). In essence it would act as a validation rule (Salesforce Lingo) since there isn't another way to "enforce" data compliance.
I hope that was clear and helpful!
