Set default field values based on view
Sam Roberts
Currently we can set a default value for fields. But if I'm in a particular view, we sometimes need a different default field value (for that view). For example, if I have created a view of all tasks in the "office hour" category, I would want any new task created (while I am in that view) to default to the office hour category. And if I'm in another view (such as the "work hours" category), I would want any new task created to default to the work hours category. Right now, whatever the field default is will be applied no matter what view I am in. Notion is a good example of how this feature could work.

This would be a great feature! I have a very similar scenario where I have different views for different projects and then data within the view is filtered to a specific project. If someone was in that view and created a new record, I would like it to default the Project ID to that Project that is currently filtered to in that particular view. This would ensure that when people are creating project tasks that they are automatically being tagged to the correct project. Without this it could become very messy.
I've seen this work well in other systems like Softr

Hiya Sam Roberts, thanks for this post! I have a few more questions for you:
- Can you provide more examples of the different views and their corresponding default field values?
- Are there any specific fields that you would like this feature to be applied to?
- How would you like the system to behave if a task is created outside of any specific view?
