Shrink the SmartDoc field

Jeff Eusebio
SmartDoc fields expand to show ALL content, ALL the time. Any fields below the SmartDoc field effectively disappear when the SmartDoc content is lengthy... unless someone bothers to scroll way down. There's an icon to expand the SmartDoc field -- great. Default the SmartDoc to perhaps half a page.

Shrink space required for SmartDoc

SmartDoc is the only text field that allows rich text formatting, but a SmartDoc field takes up 4 times the vertical space of Text Area field and 16 times the space of a simple Text field. I'd like the ability to use a SmartDoc but shrink it to the size of a Text Area field.

Able to make SmartDoc smaller

Ability to change the size of the SmartDoc field in a popped out record - i.e. make it smaller.
It uses a lot of room at the moment which detracts from its useful features. Text area and text field are both smaller.

Love the SmartDoc field but this is really essential for us to use it in place of the Text Area field.

ClickUp does a good job with this in their task description where they have a portion of the description shown and a button that says See More. This would be a nice option to go along with a the view Jeff Eusebio is asking for. I could imagine in the task field settings different options on how to view a SmartDoc in a record like some of the other fields.

I think it would be nice if we could collapse the smart doc and open if needed. We are doing this in a sense by adding the smart doc under a section but if there was a good way to just mark the field to collapse by default then it would eliminate the sections. There is some smart docs that I would want to stay open so I like the idea of the Show More like Clickup has.

I think it would be good if you could just set a default maximum number of characters from a SmartDoc that display in that SmartDoc's column in Grid View. I know we can limit how much is displayed by setting the Row Size to something other than 'Auto Size' but I often need the rows to be auto-sized for other reasons, too, and would rather not have to set a fixed Row Size. Hope that makes sense.

I agree this would be helpful. One way around this, however, is to put the SmartDoc under a section in your page view and have it collapsed by default.
To Jeff’s point, however, I have some SmartDocs that are so long that they error out and don’t show at all in the view. The only way I have found to access them in the grid view is to open that particular field directly on the grid.
