Streamlined Creation of New Line Items through Linked Record Field
Sean Kurtz
For applications where the linked record field is being used to link to 'line-items' (purchase order line items, sales order line items, etc.) and the user is always required to add a new record (never linking to existing line items), it would be great if instead of a button which opens the linking window ("Link to record from ______", and then needing to click "Create new record" in that window) there would be a field option to always create new and the button in the linked record field would just say "Create new record," similar to how the Sub-Items field looks.

Only create new record linked field setting (As in, don't offer the option to link a record)

In many situations, there are linked record fields where the user should never link to an existing record. They should always be creating a new record. For example, when logging an activity. It's confusing for users sometimes when they are presented related linked records before being able to click the "Create new record" button.
Make it so you can toggle off the ability to select a linked record and just straight to creating a new record.

Hiya Nathan Arant, thanks for this post! I have a few more questions for you:
- What specific scenarios or use cases do you envision where users should only create new records and not link to existing ones?
- Are there any exceptions where linking to an existing record might still be necessary, even if the default is to create a new record?
- How critical is this feature for your workflow, and what impact would it have on your operations if implemented?

Yes! Separate "Link Existing" and "Create New" buttons. This would save a lot of clicks.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Intuitively, we thought the '+' on the right was for adding a New Record to the Linked App. Would be great to have the option to create a New Record as Sean Kurtz said.
Would be even more amazing if we could add the initial Fields displayed without having to open a New Record, when using Expanded Display Format. So for us, Services, Talent, Qty and Amount could all be populated directly in the Linked Record. 😇
